Design x Technology Lecture: Melissa Kagen

March 26 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Wandering Games

Join Lawrence Technological University’s College of Architecture and Design on Tuesday, March 26th for a forward-thinking Design x Technology Lecture as we present Assistant Teaching Professor of Interactive Media & Game Development, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Melissa Kagen.

Wandering in games can be a theme, a formal mode, an aesthetic metaphor, or a player action. It can mean walking, escaping, traversing, meandering, or returning. In this talk, I’ll introduce the concept of “wandering games” and explain the uses of wandering in a variety of game worlds. Using examples from several recent digital games, I’ll discuss how ideologies of work, gender, colonialism, and death inflect the ways we wander through digital spaces.

Participants will be given examples of the ways they can use wandering in games to create different meanings and experiences for players. This will make them more creative and more thoughtful designers.

This lecture is free and open to the public. As part of CoAD’s Design x Technology Lecture Series, guests may watch online or on campus. Register for the location/viewing details. Your on-campus registration includes a pizza lunch
